These people aren’t just our patients. These are your neighbors. The restaurant servers, business owners, and the fitness instructors. The woman who works at the coffee shop and the teacher at your local school. These are their stories, and this is your impact.
What does a car battery have to do with wellness?
Everything.
Reliable transportation is important no matter who you are. But when you’re receiving medical treatment, it’s essential—because missing lifesaving care isn’t an option.
Dale had received exceptional care from his care team, who learned that he was struggling to make his follow-up appointments due to a dead car battery. Since he was a Corewell Health patient, his care team said, “This is our job. We’ll make sure that Dale makes it to his appointment.”
That battery barely cost anything. But it meant everything to Dale. It helped power his way to wellness.
What does a mini fridge have to do with wellness?
Everything.
Managing diabetes is hard, because insulin is sensitive to temperatures that are too high or low—and the longer it’s exposed, the less effective it becomes.
Nicole was struggling to regulate her diabetes because the compressor on her fridge had failed, and she couldn’t use it to store her meds, but she also couldn’t afford to let her insulin go bad. Her Corewell Health care team stepped in and supplied Nicole with an inexpensive mini fridge.
Funny how something so small could make such a monumental difference in Nicole’s wellness.
What does a key card have to do with wellness?
Everything.
Premature babies need all the help they can get, the best of which is available at the Gerber Foundation Neonatal Center at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
When Jennifer and Kaleb’s daughter, Harper, was born eight weeks early, that began a 107-day stay in the NICU. Living outside of Grand Rapids meant they struggled to remain near to Harper, until their Corewell Health care team arranged for a week-long stay in a local hotel.
A key card allowed Jennifer and Kaleb to focus on loving their child while we helped with the rest.
What does a concrete slab have to do with wellness?
Everything.
Patients count on Corewell Health for the care they need to restore them to good health. But sometimes there are other obstacles that inhibit their optimal health.
Joel was eager to return home from the hospital, but an unpaved approach meant he couldn’t maneuver his wheelchair into his accessible home. His care team reached out to one of our community partners who went to his home and poured a slab of concrete.
This concrete connection paved the way to wellness and allowed Joel to stay in his home.
